Scam Defense

Scam Defense User Guide Library

Welcome! This page is your gateway to getting the most out of Scam Defense.

We know blocking scam calls might seem high-tech, but don’t worry – we’ve made Scam Defense as easy as can be. This overview will explain how the product works, who it’s for, and the key actions you can take to maximize your protection against spam and scam calls.

Why Scam Defense (and Who It’s For?)

Scam Defense is for anyone tired of annoying calls. If you’ve ever picked up the phone only to hear a fake “IRS agent” or a sketchy warranty offer, this technology is for you.

We built Scam Defense with everyday people in mind. It’s perfect for:

  • Individuals & Families: This technology is designed to keep you and your family’s money, information, and time safe.

  • Seniors & Elderly: Over $1 trillion was lost in 2024 due to scams, and people over 60 were the primary victims, losing a lifetime of income, inheritance, and information.

  • Kids & Teens: Unfortunately, scammers often target kids who have access to their parents' credit cards.

In short, if you have a phone, Scam Defense is for you. We designed it to be a set-and-forget solution. Once it’s up and running, it works forever.

How Scam Defense Works (The Basics)

Scam Defense works in a few simple steps:

  1. Caller Identification: When a call comes in, Scam Defense checks it against a huge database of known scam/spam numbers. If it’s a match, we block it automatically. If not, we move to step 2.

  2. AI Call Screening: Your friendly secretary will answer the call for you and determine whether it is likely legitimate or a scam.

  3. User Alert or Block: If the call is determined to be spam/scam, Scam Defense will block it or send it to voicemail. If the call is legit, your secretary will let you know who’s on the other line.

It’s really that straightforward on the user’s end. The heavy lifting (analysis, databases, etc.) all happens behind the scenes. You don’t need to do anything special during day-to-day use. Just keep Scam Defense active on your phone, and carry on as usual – except with far fewer interruptions!

Key Features and Actions for Users

THIS SECTION IS BEING BUILT & COMING IN MAY OF 2025:

Scam Defense offers a handful of powerful features, all accessible through our easy interface. Here are the key things you can do as a user, along with guides on each (we’ve underlined them so you know these are important topics you can read more about):

  • Installing and Setting Up: Getting started is a breeze. Check out Getting Started: Installing Scam Defense for a step-by-step walkthrough on downloading the app (available on iOS and Android) and setting up your account. In minutes, you’ll have scam call protection enabled on your phone.

  • AI Call Assistant: Curious about that AI receptionist we mentioned? The How to Use the AI Call Assistant guide explains how to activate the feature that lets our AI answer unknown calls for you. You’ll learn how the assistant works and how to personalize its greeting (you can even make it introduce itself by name or mention you’re using Scam Defense).

  • Blocking and Allowing Numbers: While Scam Defense auto-blocks most bad calls, you have manual control too. Our article Blocking a Phone Number (Manual Block/Allow List) shows you how to blacklist any number (like that one persistent telemarketer) or whitelist numbers you always want to allow. It’s as simple as a few taps.

  • Customizing Call Settings: Everyone’s tolerance for calls is different. In Customizing Your Scam Defense Call Settings, we walk through options like turning on “Do Not Disturb” mode (which sends all unknown callers to the AI assistant or voicemail), setting quiet hours, or adjusting the sensitivity of spam detection. This guide ensures Scam Defense fits your needs like a glove.

  • Understanding Scam Defense Alerts: When Scam Defense blocks a call or when the AI screens one, the app will notify you. Check out Understanding Scam Defense Alerts and Notifications to see what each alert means. For example, a “Scam Suspected – Blocked” notification means our system caught a likely scam. We also show you how to review the call log for details (like seeing a transcription of what the AI assistant heard during a screened call).

  • Troubleshooting Common Issues: Technology isn’t perfect, and occasionally you might wonder “Why did a spam call ring through?” or “Why was my delivery driver’s call blocked?”. Our troubleshooting guide addresses such questions. In Troubleshooting Scam Defense (FAQ), you’ll find solutions for scenarios like missed wanted calls, how to tweak settings to better suit your situation, and what to do if the app isn’t functioning as expected.

Each of these topics is covered in its own user guide article, complete with screenshots and simple instructions. You can find them in our Scam Defense User Guide library (navigate via our website’s Support section or the app’s Help menu). We recommend new users start with the installation guide and then read the customization piece to tailor the app to your liking. Don’t worry, each guide is written in plain English, just like this – no confusing tech jargon. We want you to feel empowered and fully in control of your scam-blocking superpowers.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Scam Defense

  • Keep the App Updated: We frequently release updates (often automatically via the app store) that improve scam detection. Always update to the latest version to benefit from new features and the latest scam number lists.

  • Check Your Notifications: Occasionally peek at the Scam Defense notifications or open the app to review what’s been caught. It’s oddly satisfying to see a list of blocked scam calls – calls that didn’t interrupt your day! Also, this helps you verify that important calls aren’t being missed. If you see something blocked that shouldn’t be, adjust your settings or whitelist that number.

  • Use the AI Assistant for Unknowns: If you get a lot of calls from new numbers (e.g., clients, delivery drivers, etc.), we highly recommend enabling the AI call screening feature. It strikes a great balance between blocking scams and letting real calls through with context. The assistant will always introduce itself as an assistant, so genuine callers will understand and not be offended that an AI picked up. You can think of it as your personal secretary – and who wouldn’t want one of those?

  • Customize Quiet Hours: Use the quiet hours setting at night or during important meetings. During those times, Scam Defense can automatically silence all calls except those from your contacts or marked as “VIP.” Scammers love to call at odd hours; quiet hours ensures you’ll never wake up to a scam call at 2 AM again.

  • Educate Family Members: If you installed Scam Defense on a family member’s phone, take a moment to show them how it works. For example, let grandma know that if she sees our assistant handling a call, it’s normal and for her protection. Empowering users with a little knowledge can prevent confusion and build trust in the tool.
