Subscription Policy

Effective Date: April 19, 2025

This Subscription Policy outlines the terms of subscriptions for Scam Defense, including the free trial, billing, pricing, and cancellation procedures. By subscribing to Scam Defense, you agree to this policy.

Free Trial

  • 7-Day Free Trial: We offer a 7-day free trial to all new users. Your trial begins when you activate it (usually when you first sign up and enter payment information). During the trial, you get full access to Scam Defense's features at no charge.

  • No Charge During Trial: You will not be billed the subscription fee during the 7-day trial. However, authorization hold may be placed on your payment method to verify it (this is not an actual charge and usually disappears in a few days).

  • Transition to Paid Subscription: If you do not cancel by the end of the 7th day, your trial will automatically convert to a paid subscription on day 8. At that time, we will charge your provided payment method the applicable subscription fee (see "Pricing" below). The billing cycle will start from that date.

  • One Trial Per User: The free trial is limited to one per user (or per account/phone number). Attempting to get multiple free trials (for example, by using different emails) is against our terms.

Pricing and Plans

  • Beta Pricing: During our beta program, Scam Defense has a special pricing model. The standard plan (after trial) is a monthly subscription.

  • Founders' Special (First 100 Users): We are offering a special deal to our early adopters. The first 100 subscribers enjoy a locked-in lifetime price of $5 USD per month. This is an exclusive 50% discount off the future full price (planned at $19.99/month once the beta period ends and we officially launch).

    • If you are one of these first 100 users, congratulations! Your price will remain $5 per month for as long as you continue your subscription without interruption. It won't increase even when we raise the price for new users in the future.

    • This special pricing is our way of saying thank you for being an early supporter. It's locked to your account and not transferable.

  • Standard Pricing: If you are not in the first 100 users, or after those slots are filled, your subscription will be at the regular beta rate (if any). During beta, we may continue to offer a discounted rate for all beta users (for example, a beta rate of $14.99/month), but this is subject to change. We will always show you the price before you confirm your subscription.

  • Full Launch Pricing: After beta, the subscription is expected to be $19.99/month (full price). This will apply to new users who join post-beta. Beta users may continue on their beta rates for a period or transition to the full price depending on our launch strategy – details will be communicated closer to that time.

  • Lifetime Price for Early Users: Just to reiterate, if you're in on the $5/month lifetime deal (first 100 users), you keep that rate for life, as long as your account remains active and in good standing.

  • Currency and Taxes: All prices are stated in U.S. Dollars (USD). If you're outside the U.S., equivalent charges in your local currency might apply. Prices do not include any taxes. If any sales, VAT, or similar taxes apply, they will be added at checkout per local law.

Billing Cycle and Payment

  • Monthly Billing: Subscriptions are billed on a monthly cycle. Your "billing date" is the day your free trial converts to paid, and that same day each month you will be charged. For example, if your trial ends and subscription starts on April 10, your next charge will be May 10, then June 10, and so on.

  • Payment Methods: We accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, etc.) and may accept other payment methods (like PayPal or app store payments) as available. You must provide a valid payment method when starting the free trial (even though you won't be charged immediately).

  • Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless cancelled. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis. This will continue until you cancel.

  • Receipts: After each successful charge, we will email you a receipt (to the email associated with your account). You can also view your billing history in the app under your account settings.

  • Failed Payments: If a payment fails (due to expiration, insufficient funds, etc.), we will notify you and retry the payment. We may retry multiple times over several days. During this time, your subscription may be in a grace period – we'll keep Scam Defense active for a short window to allow you to update payment info. If payment isn't completed, your subscription may be paused or cancelled due to non-payment. If that happens, you would lose access to premium features (your account might revert to a free/basic state, if available), and crucially, if you were an early user with special pricing, you might lose that rate (see below).

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancel Anytime: You have the freedom to cancel your Scam Defense subscription at any time, no questions asked. There are no long-term contracts or commitments beyond the current billing period.

  • How to Cancel: You can cancel via the app or website. On the app, go to your Account > Subscription > Cancel Subscription (the exact path may vary, but it will be clearly labeled). If you subscribed through an app store (Apple App Store or Google Play), you might need to cancel through your device's subscription management settings. Alternatively, you can contact our support and we can assist with cancellation.

  • Effective Date of Cancellation: When you cancel, you will continue to have access to the premium features until the end of the current billing cycle that you've paid for. For example, if you're billed on the 10th of each month and you cancel on the 20th, you can still use your subscription through the next 10th. After that, the subscription will not renew and you will lose access to premium features.

  • No Pro-Rated Refunds: We do not offer refunds for the remainder of a billing period after cancellation (see Refund Policy below). So if you cancel mid-month, you won't be charged further, but we also don't refund the partial month. You'll simply retain access for the remainder of that paid month.

  • Confirmation: After cancelling, we'll send you an email confirmation. Keep this for your records. If you do not receive a confirmation, please reach out to support to ensure the cancellation was processed.

  • Retaining Data: Canceling your subscription is not the same as deleting your account. If you cancel, your account will remain (with free access, if we offer a free tier, or inactive if not) and your settings and data will be retained for a period as per our Privacy Policy. You can still use any free features. If you wish to delete your account entirely, please follow the account deletion process in the app or contact support.

  • Re-subscribing: If you cancel and later decide to re-subscribe, you can do so at any time. However, be aware that if you were on a special beta pricing (like $5) and you cancel, that special price is forfeited once your subscription lapses. Any re-subscription would likely be at the current standard rate at that time. We cannot guarantee the same deal will be available again, especially for the early-user lifetime price.

Special Beta Pricing Conditions

  • First 100 Users Deal: As mentioned, if you're an early supporter with the $5/month for life deal, that "for life" is contingent on maintaining an active subscription. If you cancel or if your subscription is terminated (for example, due to failed payments that you do not resolve within the grace period), you will lose the grandfathered pricing. If you later return, you would subscribe at whatever the current rate is.

  • We will do our best to remind users of this condition. For instance, if you go to cancel and you are on the special rate, the app will warn you that you won't be able to get the $5 deal back in the future if you proceed.

  • Transferability: The special pricing is tied to your account (and essentially, to you as our early user). It's not transferable to another account or user. If you were to create a new account for some reason, the new account wouldn't carry that old pricing.

  • Duration of Beta Rates: All beta users (even beyond the first 100) are enjoying reduced rates compared to our planned full price. These beta rates are expected to continue throughout the beta period. Once we approach full launch, we will communicate how transitions will work. It could be that beta users get a grace period or a discount to upgrade to full price. Our aim is to reward loyalty while sustaining our service as it grows.

Changes to Subscription Terms

We may update this Subscription Policy as needed (for example, if we introduce new plans, or at full launch). We will notify subscribers of any significant changes, especially those that affect pricing or billing. Notifications may be via email and/or in-app alerts, at least 30 days in advance of changes when possible.

If pricing or fundamental terms change, you will have the opportunity to cancel before such changes take effect if you do not agree with them.
